Halloween 2013

Halloween sort of snuck up on me this year.  Better yet- it didn't really sneak up on me.  But I purposefully put it on the back burner this year.  I did not stress over costumes, decor, crafts, treats, etc.  A couple of months ago I ordered the girls' costumes online (after I let them pick them out themselves)....and they were pretty cheap.  Which = Easy.  Which = No extra work.  Which = No make-up.  Which = no fancy hair.  Which = No special shoes.  Which = A happy momma.

I'm really trying to be better about not spreading myself so thin.  When I do...my patience is very thin (ok- virtually non-existent)....and things around the house just don't quite run as smoothly.

Yeh- I don't know why I feel like I need a 2 paragraph monologue.  But moving on!

I'd say we all had a pretty happy halloween.  We woke up...had breakfast...ran to the grocery store (where ALL 3 children behaved!)...came home...Nolan napped while Parker and I did school and Grace watched a movie on the iPad.  :)

My sister and Payton brought lunch over....the girls played and played...and then we attempted caramel apple bites.  They were a fail (the caramel slid right off) and I take complete blame because I didn't know what I was doing...but they were pretty good and I think the girls had an ok time.

Nolan was happy to sit and watch as the fun unraveled.

Ok so not the prettiest.  But they tasted pretty darn good.

Onto Nolan's first Halloween.

Geoff's loves almost all comics.  His favorite- Super Man.

When I was taking his picture he was just going on and on...talking and bouncing his arms around (Aunt Sis was nearby incase he toppled)...it was almost like he knew what I was doing.  ;)

Then the girls in their costumes before we went trick-or-treating...

Little Mermaid, Princess Jasmine, and a Wink fairy (that I do not know her name)...

Parker

Grace

We only trick-or-treated for about 40 minutes or so....we got a little late start and then I think we were all pretty much done.  The girls still got plenty of candy.  I think the Candy Fairy may visit tonight.  :)

Not pictured, but Nolan was just pushed around in the stroller and took a little nap while the girls went door to door.  All in all- it was a pretty good day.

And I'm exhausted!  :)

saturday house

Do you ever have saturdays that just feel like a saturday?  I realize this is a beyond silly question....but today just had a different feel to it.  I think, large in part, due to this beyond beautiful weather.  But it reminded me of some of the Saturdays I had when I was little.  I loved them.   The windows open...everyone in a good, light mood...cleaning, picking up...just being at home.  And with no other responsibilities or commitments for the day.

We started out our morning slow.  Geoff brought me a Starbucks coffee and the girls donuts (ok he got me a donut, too...and my favorite jalapeƱo cheese bagels from Tom Thumb).   So we already had a good start going for us.

The high was in the 60s...sun shining...with a slight breeze.  Perfection.
I opened up the windows....and just breathed in the smell of cooler, fall weather.  It gives the whole house a different feel when the windows are open.  And I love it.

It was just a good day that we spent together (Parker was at my mom's most of the day, but still)...and yet we were still productive.

After our slow morning...morning nap (for Nolan)...and lunch...we got dressed and headed out to Home Depot.
Then Geoff spent some time painting our kitchen table (yes, again!!).  I'm ready to move on from the turquoise...but more importantly- it wasn't looking it's best these days with paint stains from the girl's art projects and then just norma wear and tear.

I got into the attic to bring down a few more baby toys for Nolan.  It's so funny to me to see how the girls (just Grace here, but even Parker, too) see me pull out a toy for Nolan...and they flock to it wanting to play with it themselves.  I know they don't mean harm...but geez!  The boy can't even play with his own toys.  :)

With Parker being gone...we were able to give Little Miss some extra attention and she was our big helper.  But in true Saturday fashion....after lots of helping...she snuggled up on a cozy pallet with a snack...and none other than Barbie Christmas movie.

We picked Parker up and all had dinner together.  It was fun to listen to her tell us about her day.  When she's gone all day and comes home....sometimes she just seems like she's grown up so much.  Just the way she talks...like a bigger kid.

We also let Nolan try out his first baby food tonight.  Peas.  Those pictures are on my big camera so they'll probably get a post of their own.

And then finished off my day rocking this sweet boy to sleep.

Not a day goes by (even the hard hard ones where I feel so overwhelmed and like I'm failing everyone and everything in my life)...I feel so very blessed.  I've been given way more than I deserve.

Nolan @ 5 months

This post is looooooong overdue and so I barely have the steam to write it.  But write it, I must.

{things have changed since...but the things written are where he was @ the 5 month mark}

-size 3-6 month clothes

-size 2 (starting to now wear size 3) diapers

-eats about every 3 hours during day- I nurse 2-3 times, and then 2-3 times a bottle of formula

-he is such a happy boy.  will smile and 'talk' to almost everyone.  {disclaimer: most of the time}

- he reaches and grabs for everything.  we're entering into a new season with this!

-drooling...soaks 3-4 bibs a day.  he's working on those 2 bottom teeth!

-i should probably put him on his belly more than i do.  and although he has been able to roll over since around 3ish months old...when i put him on his belly, he'd rather whine and try (without success) to move forward.  he usually ends up staying in the same spot and spins around

-sleeping.  what's that???  don't let his cuteness fool you.  let's just say....he's not the best.  but i suppose it could always be worse.  we lay him down between 7 and 7:30....then it's anyones guess when he'll wake again.  12:30?  2:30?  3:30?  5:30?  Or...all of the above.  :)  for naps it usually 3 - 45 minute naps a day.  sometimes he'll go right down for the nap...others he fusses...i go back in there...he fusses.  when he's really tired, i just put the paci in and he clasps his chubby little hands and pulls them up to his face....and then will roll himself to his side with his knees bent and ankles crossed.

-oh my goodness.  do they come any cuter?  those eyes have stolen my heart.

story time at the pumpkin patch

This past Saturday- I bundled up the kids and headed to a local little pumpkin patch in our town.  As we were leaving our house the temps were in the 70s....and by the time we left the pumpkin patch they were in the 50s!  It was pretty chili, but we were more than happy to welcome cooler temps!

Some of the proceeds from this pumpkin patch go toward the children's library here, and so I try to support it by getting our pumpkins here.  Anyways- they also have a story time each Saturday followed by some crafts, face painting, and then some other featured fun thing.

We got there a few minutes early...so the girls ran around a bit playing hide-and-seek in the hay maze.

I have to brag on this guy.  He did SO good the whole time.  Just looked around...played with his toys...and then napped when it was time to nap.  I am so thankful for this go-with-the-flow-baby {most of the time!!}.

Those eyes.  Those cheeks.  That smile.  I'm toast.

The girls were the only ones for just a little bit and then a few more joined in.

After story time...we quickly ran to pick up lunch and ate in the car because we wanted to go back to the pumpkin patch for Patchy the Scarecrow (Patchy does a cute little show..telling stories, singing songs, and interacting with the kids).  So while we waited for Patchy...the girls got their face painted.  They both got flowers on both cheeks.

{and this is when my big camera ran out of battery....so phone photos it is}

A little crafting.  This was Parker's first time with a paint pen and she was in love.  She now 'needs' a paint pen.  Haha.

Patchy also made the girls flower balloons while we were waiting for the show to start.

Nap time!

I love love seeing Grace raising her hand here just like the bigger kids.

So here....the kids are sort of acting out a song with props....when it's their turn...they're supposed to raise of their prop and/or do their specified motion.

And oh my goodness...Grace was too funny.  She would not smile.  At all.  The whole time she was standing up there.  She made the face you see below the whole time.  I would smile...make faces at her....and nothing.  The parents and volunteers that were watching all got a little kick out of her.
She's a mess, I tell ya.

Still sleeping, sweet boy.  Holding onto his toys.

We made it almost to the end of the show, but Parker was getting a little too cold so we headed out a few minutes early.  It was a fun little morning/afternoon with the kiddos.  So thankful for fun {free} activities like this!
