Our little swimmer!

Well...what can I say? Swim lessons tonight were a splash!! As I have mentioned before, Parker loves bath time, but I was not convinced that she would also like the pool. In my experience, (from previous years of teaching swimming lessons myself) I know that for some reason, once some of the kids actually get into a swimming pool, they just don't like it. But this was not the case for Parker! Immediately upon entering the water she began moving her legs and splashing! She would kick her feet like riding a bicycle and sometimes even a frog kick. She didn't like floating on her back very much, she would mostly squirm, very similar to the squirming we experience upon 90% of all diaper changes! We did get some pictures, but we have plans of taking the video camera tomorrow to capture these moments on film.

So we brought her home once lessons were over, and I was a little nervous about putting her back in the water for bath time. But she didn't mind! She was talking and splashing as usual, and again, threw a little fit when I got her out. We also mistakenly thought that she would be so tired and even go to bed a little early, but.....instead...she stayed up playing until 9:00!! (normal bedtime is between 8:00 and 8:30) All in all, we had a great day!

So it's not as easy as it sounds...

On Thursday, I was ready! I was ready to reduce the number of bottles Parker drinks in a day, ween her from the bottle, and start feeding her more things that we eat. So Thursday night I open a baby food jar called 'Tender Chicken and Stars.' The name reminded me of chicken noodle soup...so I thought "This should taste all right..." Wrong! I did warm it up slightly (I mean, it's dinner..right?). I even tasted it myself and it did resemble chicken noodle soup, except no salt (so very bland). So I scoop a little into the spoon, and Parker trustingly takes a bite. Before she even swallowed she began gagging..."blah...blah..." then "blaaaaah." She made herself sick! Bless her heart! Needless to say, I no longer tried to feed her the Tender Chicken and Stars!! So the first day of trying this 'new food' wasn't too successful. However, I am happy to report that yesterday and today have been much better. And today she only had 4 bottles!!! And with 3 of the 4 bottles I started her out with the sippy cup, and she drank a couple of ounces, but then she was done messing with it. But I am happy with that! We'll just take it a day at a time...trying to figure it out...did she get enough dairy, protein, fruit, veggies, carbs?" Did she get enough fluids? Does this amount of food make her full, or will she be hungry again in an hour? Will it make her little tummy hurt? Fun, fun, fun! We are learning! (or at least trying to!)

What can I say...our little girl is growing up! She has now graduated from her sleepers and she is now in pajamas! Below are pictures in her new pj's!

Nine month check-up...

This morning we visited the pediatrician's office for Parker's 9 month check-up. We are happy to report a healthy baby!! She weighs 18lbs, 8.5oz (50th percentile), and her length is 27.5 inches (45th percentile). So now that she is 9 months old, we are going to start trying to feed her most everything that we eat (within reason, and minus the six 'forbidden' foods: chocolate, shellfish, nuts, berries, eggs, and honey). For the past 3 months she has still been having 5 bottles and about 4 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Now we are able to give her meats, cheeses, yogurt, etc. Last night we gave her chicken for the first time and she seemed to like it. I am going to try to decrease her number of bottles to 4, then eventually, three. I also have big plans to gradually ween her from the bottle by giving her some of her formula in a sippy cup. So...this new milestone is exciting, but I know that it will be somewhat of a challenge because she's not always the most cooperative when it's feeding time. However, I guess our saving grace is cheerios...she seems to eat those anytime!

9 months old...

Looking back over the past month, Parker has been a very busy little girl! She got three new teeth, started crawling, began feeding herself tiny finger foods (like cheerios), started walking more while holding our hands, began giving her 'little baby' doll kisses, and she even started throwing more definitive temper-tantrums when she didn't get what she wanted (I know...it's hard to believe!)! It absolutely melts our hearts when we see her smile, or laugh, or when she snuggles up close to us. It has been such a joy to see her grow and I know we are in for so much more to come...we are truly blessed...

Finding a swimsuit...

No longer are the days where I can just log on to the computer, stroll to jcrew.com and order my swimsuit...when I already knew my size and the style that looked decent on my body type...where the only real decision being made was finding the color and design of my liking. I have now had a baby, and with that, comes a new body. I have managed to make it down to my pre-pregnancy weight, but that weight has distributed itself to new places. So I have been putting off the whole finding a swimsuit thing for the mere fact that I have been dreading it. Well- swim lessons for Parker begin on Monday and I will be getting in the water with her. Knowing full well that most swimsuits are picked over, we set forth on an adventure today to try and find one. This is interesting on many levels because now, not only am I looking for a suit that looks somewhat decent on my body, I am looking for one that does not make me look like I am trying to be too young (too revealing), but then again, not too old, one that is, perhaps, fitting for a mom. Luckily, I found one I could live with. I did attempt trying them on at the store, but quickly decided to purchase and try on at home because shopping with a 9 month old has its own adventures in and of itself!

Happy Father's Day!

In honor of Father's day, I thought I'd post some pictures of Geoff with his daughter. He's a wonderful father and we are so blessed to have him in our lives.

She won't let it go...

When we feed Parker now, about half the time, she clutches onto the spoon and won't let it go! I guess it's because of the way her teeth feel when she bites down on the spoon. She now has her 4 front teeth and then the two on the bottom. I just had to capture the moment in a picture...

Cool shades...

Aunt Sister (Kristin) came over the other day and had some fun with Parker. She really enjoyed Aunt Sister's sunglasses. We kept putting them on her, but she, of course, wanted to take them off and put them in her mouth!

You live, you learn...

So, Parker and I were just going about our day this afternoon...playing...and crawling...and walking while holding onto my hands or furniture... as happy as can be....

Then...she starts trying to balance and get situated like she is about to take a step and come towards me (see picture below). Well...she did let go of the couch...she did take a step...but then tumbled forward, briefly bracing herself with her arms and ultimately bumping her head on the tile floor. I tried to get to her as fast as I could (I was only a reach away), but time seemed to move in slow motion. She only cried for about 30 seconds and was fine, but then I wanted to cry! I felt (and still feel) so terrible! So now she has a little bump on her forehead. I guess this will be the first of many 'boo-boos' to come...

She's crawling!

Parker has finally started to crawl! For the past 2 weeks or so, she has been leaning forward from the sitting position and getting into the crawling position, but this would all end with her on her belly and usually whining! She has also been doing some scooting on her bottom. So this evening it all seemed to finally click with her and she started to actually crawl! Below are pictures of her in action!
