Class of 2026

Parker started kindergarten this week.  In the weeks leading up to this day, I felt pretty indifferent.  It wasn't until the day before, really, that I was feeling a little sentimental.  I wasn't sure how to feel.  I don't think it was as bad as it would have been if she were going to a new school and for 5 days a week.

But she isn't.  She's returning to the school she attended for K4, and is in a class with most of the kids that were in her class last year.  In addition- she only goes to school 2 days a week...then we homeschool 2 days a week.

With all that said...she's been home for 3 months, and we are now approaching a new season.  'Real' school. (not that K4 wasn't real but kinder is a definite step).  And she's just growing up.  So fast.

Breakfast was as usual.  Cinnamon toast for Parker.  Toast with butter for Grace.  And watching a show on the iPad.  And on this morning they even had fruit, too!  (I'm bad, I know)

The obligatory first day pics.  And she did this pose all on her own....

Sweet girl.

She still says she wants to be a nurse when she grows up.  She said she wants to take care of sick babies like me.  And she wants to work with me.  Sweet girl....I pray that you will still feel this way in 10 years.  :)  (I don't care what she does when she grows up...but to love me like this...I don't want it to change.)

Her tummy was a little upset before we left....and Geoff was helping her finish getting ready while I was getting Nolan in the carseat...and as they walked around the corner...he was holding her and she was crying.  And it wasn't a fit=throwing cry...it was her sad and anxious cry.  She didn't want to go to school.  And I don't know exactly what he said, but after he put her in the van she was drying up her tears and was ok.

Once we got to school, she was a little clingy...but then parted ways with us and did not cry.  She looked like she wanted to, but was so brave.  I knew she'd be fine once we left.  And she was.

Meanwhile back at home.....middle sister and I made cupcakes to welcome big sis home after her first day.  I wouldn't say that my day was 'easier' only having 2 rather than 3 because they are still a handful....but some things were not as challenging, I guess.  For instance....making the cupcakes...Grace got to do it all.  No refereeing. No taking turns.  No reminding to share.  Just a good ole time.  And I loved spending this time with her.

And I'll be dropping this sweet girl off at kindergarten before I know it.

When I picked Parker up, the first thing she said was, "Mom- I did not learn how to read today."  hahaha!  I'm so glad she has such high expectations.  :)  I feel just after that one day she looked so much older to me.

Also- I had asked Grace to keep the cupcakes a special secret surprise.  She told me she couldn't keep a secret.  :)  I appreciated her honesty.  But after really talking with her, she agreed.  And then 1 minute....ONE minute from home she says to Parker, "We did NOT make cupcakes today."
And Parker said, "What?  Mom- did ya'll make cupcakes today?"
And Grace replied, "Uuuuhh!  We can't tell you!"

Parker was happy about her cupcakes.  And was so happy to be home.  She was in the best of moods and I was so thankful for her wonderful first day.

And the day ended with Geoff reading them "Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten" which they loved.  I had intentions of reading before the first day, but hey...after the first day is good enough!

And yesterday we had our first homeschool day.  Thankful that the assignment was light because I have some additional preparations to make to hopefully help our days go more smoothly.  About 10  minutes in, I sent them to their room for 5 minutes so I could regroup.  ;)

All in all...I'm excited about this year and all of the growth I'll get to see right before my eyes.
