Style Your Life: Virtual Floor Plan

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A couple of months ago....I started reading the Mom*tog blog. It's a blog written by a very talented photographer, DrewB.... and she gives tips and pointers for mom's wanting to take better pictures of their kids. So- inevitably...I started tuning in!

Back in June...she had just moved to a new house...and had found this blog....Style Your Life by Jennifer. On this blog...she offers a service where she puts together virtual outfits, room collages, and virtual floor plans.

Ok- now I'll get to my point!

Mom*tog had Jennifer make a virtual floor plan of her office/meeting room to help her with the room design...and the great deal with this is that... along with this virtual floor plan....she also sources everything in the room!

So this immediately intrigued me. I don't feel like I know anything about fashion...and definitely, close to nothing about decorating. I thought the virtual floor plans were so neat...and she does all of this for $75 a room. I thought to myself, "I'm probably never going to be in a place where I could get an interior designer to come here and design everything for my house...so why not try the next best thing...and for an affordable price!"

I decided that I wanted to have her do a virtual floor plan for our living room/family room. It's a room that will require 'floating' furniture and for some reason this made me nervous (not really sure why). But I did know what I wanted.....a nice living room that would work for when we had guest over...yet lots of storage for hiding the kids' toys (as much as you can...I mean- really...there will always be something out!)...and most importantly...functional for our everyday lives.

Jennifer, at Style Your Life, then gave me a questionnaire to fill out where I could tell her about our family...things we liked...what was important to us in a room....furniture that we were keeping in the room...and most importantly...our budget!!

I sent her pictures of our living room...

Along with measurements of the walls and windows....and then she was left to do her part....

And here's what she came up with...

Marla Family

I really like it all! It's made me open my eyes to some new things and has gotten my creative juices flowing a bit. Now my mind is racing at 90 miles an hour trying to figure out what I want to do first! The 'decorating' of this house will definitely be done in stages as the priorities fall and, of course, as the budget allows! :)

Loved it! I need someone to come give this house a makeover some day! That's interesting though isn't it?

What a cool concept! I wish I were talented enough to come up with a job like this. I like what she did with the room. That's really cool. Of course, I'm still living with only hand me down furniture and it will be that way for the foreseeable future. I'm so happy for you guys! How fun to decorate and buy new furniture! You're going to have so much fun!
