Counting Pepperoni's on Felt Pizzas (Toddler & Preschool Activity)

I have really been trying to come up with fun activities to get Parker excited about numbers. For some reason....when I start to talk about them....she pretends to ignore me and moves on. This may be, in part, to the fact that she is 2.....but I still want to take some opportunities to expose her to it. I totally got the inspiration of this idea from the great blog Counting Coconuts (love, love, love her ideas!) and her Counting Cookies. I love this!

I plan on making her the Counting Cookies, as well, however.......I came up with the idea to make mini pepperoni pizzas instead. We're a fan of pizza in this house.....and I have to say....I was also a little bit inspired by the mini pepperonis I found in the store a few weeks go.

All I did was find 2 tupperware circles of different sizes.....traced the circles.....cut them out.....then used the lid of a chapstick tube to trace the pepperonis. I made sure to make the size of the pizza big enough to fit 10 pepperonis (although....I have only made pizzas 0-5, thus far). I traced the smaller circle onto traditional batting and used 2 to fill the pizza. I didn't want them stuffed too thick.

I hand stitched some, and used my machine some. They are put together kind of sloppy-like....but they will surely do.

I also decided to add the actual number to the opposite side of the pizza so that she could relate the number of pepperonis she counted to the actual number. I found the template for these numbers here. I just traced and cut them out....and although the numbers are kind of small....they were not too difficult to cut because felt isn't too flimsy, and I have a pair of small scissors that were perfect for the job.

She enjoys them and I feel like this will be something she will enjoy doing over and over!

Those are really cute! I will have to make some for my son! I am trying to teach him numbers too (I am a high school math teacher!) and he is kind of interested but not really getting the whole numbers thing yet. Maybe pizza will help!
