It's beginning to look a little bit like Christmas...

After getting our tree on Tuesday....I didn't have any specific plans of when we would actually decorate it.  I knew if I wanted to wait and do it as a family- we'd have to wait til Monday.  But the boxes laying around... and the empty tree...they all started kinda getting to me and pushing me forward into decorating mode.

And if you can't tell by this gal's face....the girls were a 'little' excited to do some decorating as well.  This picture is of Grace after hanging her first ornament on the tree by herself.  Blurry or not...pure joy!

This girl is her mother's daughter for sure.  She was very into everything.   Loves to decorate for Christmas.  Or at least it appears as though this year.  The older she gets... some things just get more fun because I see her deeper understanding of the things going on around us and how excited she is to do these things.

This is one of my favorite ornaments that was given to me by my friend Emily.  When Parker pulled this ornament out she was on her knees on the floor...and she quickly stood up and said, "Oh!  This is my favorite ornament.  This is you and Daddy and it makes me want to cry.  I don't want to cry because I'm sad, but because I'm happy."  And there were actually tears in her eyes.  It was really the sweetest thing.  She was about to put it on the tree herself...then handed it to me because she wanted me to put it up high.

Our mess.  This is Parker leaning deep into one of the tubs trying to find the angel for the top of the tree...

Found it!

Pandora was on in the background playing Christmas music and we were all having a good time....

Silly girl!

So yeh....this is where Grace is showing me a glass ornament that is broken.  Took me a while to figure it out because I even snapped another photo before entering 'Mom mode' and lunging forward to pick up all the pieces of glass from her and the floor before she cut herself.  Crisis averted and no cuts!

And FYI- it 'broke all by itself'.

__________

It's also fun to look back...I remembered this picture and ornament given to us by her Sunday school nursery teachers....

But I had totally forgotten about this one from her Sunday school teachers last year.  And this picture is so funny to me!  She does not look happy.  At all.

this and that

From our week:

Since it is officially Christmastime...we broke out some of our holiday apparel for church on Sunday.  I had originally thought that the girls still had quite a few outfits to wear that I made them last year.  Well...wrong!  Most of Parker's still fit...but for some reason I made Grace 2 outfits that were a top and pants.....and now the pants for sure do not fit!  So anyway- they still have a few they can wear and I actually got 2 dresses sewn this week (1 for each girl).  So that's progress....
{it took so much work to get the girls to stand next to each other and have some sort of semblance of a smile...}
And it's obviously not the end of the world...but I have so much fun sewing for them and it's kind of nice to have the energy and motivation to do it again!

Geoff sent me these pictures  one day when I was at work....along with a message saying:
"A serious 'we love you mom' and a serious 'silly face' to help brighten your day"
And it did just that!

On Monday- Geoff and I were off together.  Parker was in school so we ran some errands and just soaked up our littlest gal....

Loved spending some time with her in my lap watching Cinderella..

Geoff drew the Santa on the left.  And then Parker drew the one in the right.  I was pretty impressed with my 5 year old's skills.  Haha!

And our poor Christmas tree.  This is the first year we went to a tree farm and actually cut our own.  A fun experience...made some memories.  Not sure if we'll do it again though.  ;)  It needs some work for sure....but it's growing on me!

With the scent of the fresh Christmas tree....it made me ready to get out my Christmas warmer.  And I love the Christmas cottage scent.  It's leftover from last year so I really need want to order some new scents!  We'll see....

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

O Christmas Tree

Each year we always put up our fake tree.  Which is fine and easy and cheap (after the initial purchase)...and what we will probably do for most future Christmases.  But I got this idea last year...that for just one year (at least)...I wanted to go to a tree farm and cut down our own tree.

We didn't get around to it last year....and somehow we squeezed it in this year.  I'm so glad we did.  It was a fun little family experience.  When we told Parker last night she was a little confused as to why/how we would cut down a tree when we had one in our attic.  Haha!

She had to bring Lovey in the stroller.  I didn't really care.  And it was more her trying to act like a 'mommy' than wanting to have Lovey with her (although- let it be known- she still loves that thing and does go with her more often than not....but we leave it in the car!).

Parker wanted us to get this tree....

Then she wanted this tree....

taking the lead....

Parker...on her on accord....pulled Grace around for a good 20-30 minutes while we were trying to find our 'perfect' tree.....

found a nice dirt pile....

And here is it....THE tree....

they shook the tree out (didn't realize they did this, but definitely makes sense....

Texas Country Reporter (it's a show that comes on PBS) was there recording a segment...

Geoff was responsible for adjusting the tree to be centered....and I was supposed to be his guide...telling him which way he needed to move to make it be upright....

Umm...yeh....I didn't do a very good job.  ;)

We had to leave for gymnastics before he could get it all straightened out...but then he did send me a picture of the tree mostly straight (as straight as it an go).  We like it though.  It's cute and it's ours.  ;)

Now....to decorate!
