Family Photo Attire- pt i

We had our family pictures taken a couple of weeks ago after having to cancel 2 times in December due to the rain.  Anna with Laughlin House Photography did them and I couldn't be happier!

I will definitely share more of those pictures later, but I did want to share a little bit about what the girls wore because it was such a labor of love.  ;)

I spent hours and hours (time just hear and there that added up to be a LOT of time) trying to figure out what to wear!  To coordinate, but not too matchy, matchy.  What colors?  The shoes? What patterns for the girls clothes?  I know I stress way too much about it.  But I do kind of enjoy the search.  ;)

So for Parker....I decided to use this Girly Cardigan pattern from Heidi and Finn.  I've used some of there patterns before and have been pleased.  In the sample she gave for the step by step photos, I believe that she used fleece.  I wanted something a little dressier so I ended up using this twill fabric from Hobby Lobby and then used a cotton fabric from Joel Dewberry's heirloom collection.

This is the first time I've ever made a jacket/cardigan.  It took me a while to make, but I think mostly because I just really took my time....reading directions over and over again....careful not to make any mistakes.  ;)

The top she wore was just this cute white blouse I picked up at H&M one day.




So for her skirt.  I also got this fabric at Hobby Lobby.  It's a seasonal fabric- but when I saw this corduroy houndstooth I knew I wanted to make something, but just didn't know what that something was.

I decided on this pleated skirt.  Also something I have never made before.  This pattern is also from Heidi & Finn.  It was another great tutorial....however...I did end up making Parker a size 3 instead of a size 4 because the measurements just seems sort of big (long).  And even making the size 3....we still had to roll up the waist.  The skirt hit about at her knees after rolling down the waist one time.  So all of this to say....if I made it again (which I think I will because it is really cute!)- I would just take the time to figure out my own measurements for length...which is what I should have done in the first place!  But eh- you live you learn.  ;)
