All About Me Book: Toddler Learning Activity

Back in December....when I was nesting and trying to come up with various learning activities for Parker to do...I stumbled upon this blog and this idea....an 'All About Me' book.

It's basically a book that Parker will make that is all about her and what she knows and what she loves at this age...which is 2 and a half. I've made a few headers so far, including: "I know these numbers," "I know these letters," "My favorite shows," "I know these colors," "I know these shapes," etc (there are more, but can't think of them right now).

Anyway...we did 2 pages this morning.

We started with "I know these letters...."

I started by lining the letters up in order....I then pointed to them and had her tell me what each letter was. She knew all of the letters, but if she didn't know one, I had planned to take it away and not let her put it on her paper because....it would have been something that she didn't know.

These are self-adhesive foam letters. I did have to start the peeling process, but then she was able to peel them off and place them on her paper.

What is so funny/interesting to me is that, although she did not put them in order, she was trying to keep them in somewhat of a 'line'.

I had originally tried to get her to do this back in January...a couple of weeks before Grace was born....but she was disinterested, I was unorganized and didn't even have all of the letters out, and so I decided to just start over when we started again today.

But the interesting part is.... how just 3 months ago when I asked her to place the letters on her paper with no extra instruction as to where to put them....she placed them like this.....

And today...when I asked her to place them on her paper...without any extra instruction....she placed them like this...
_____________

I look at pictures and think about Parker and how she was a few months ago..... and I compare her to now...... and I can see how she is different and has changed so much in just a few short months. But it was also neat to see how she has grown 'academically'? (for lack of a better word).
_____________

Tada! All done!

Then onto numbers.

I laid out the foam letters in order from 1 to 10. She identified them all...I started to peel back the self-adhesive sticker....then she did the rest.

Again...it was fun to see how she put the numbers on the paper.

I was impressed that she placed them in a semi-straight line....but they were completely out of order....she placed some upside down....and the 1 and 0 that make up the 10 were in random places...not even beside each other. :)

I love that she did this because I believe that if I asked her to do this again 6 months or a year from now...she'd possibly place the numbers right side up and maybe even have more numbers! How fun to watch her mind grow!

Such a ham!

I still need to add the headers....I didn't have time this morning because I wasn't really planning on doing this activity at this time. But it just kind of worked out because Grace was down for a nap and Parker was in the mood...so I took full advantage!

I plan to buy a scrapbook and place the pages in the page protectors so she'll have them forever (or as long as she keeps them).

I'll update again when her "All About Me" book is complete!
